Idiopathic autoimmune hemolytic anemia is a drop in the number of red blood cells due to a problem with the body’s defense (immune) system. Folic acid deficiency anemia. Folic Acid is a member of the vitamin B family. It is used in the production of new red blood cells. Some people do not get enough folic acid in their normal diet, so their bodies are unable to produce enough red blood cells. In other cases, the body may not be able to properly use the folic acid eaten.

Autoimmune diseases also seem to have a genetic component, but, mysteriously, they can cluster in families as different illnesses. For example, a mother may have lupus erythematosus; her daughter, diabetes; her grandmother, rheumatoid arthritis. Research is shedding light on genetic as well as hormonal and environmental risk factors that contribute to the causes of these diseases.

Alopecia Areata : It’s an autoimmune disease that causes the body to form antibodies system attacks against some hair follicles, causing loss of hair on the scalp, face and other parts of the body. Alopecia Areata is often called as spot baldness. It can occur at any age and effects around 1% of the population, most commonly children. Some people develop only a few bare patches that regrow hair within a year.

Autoimmune Diseases Causes

Normally the immune system’s army of white blood cells helps protect the body from harmful substances, called antigens. Examples of antigens include bacteria, viruses, toxins, cancer cells, and foreign blood or tissues from another person or species. The immune system produces antibodies that destroy these harmful substances. But in patients with an autoimmune disorder, the immune system can’t tell the difference between healthy body tissue and antigens. The result is an immune response that destroys normal body tissues. The response is a hypersensitivity reaction similar to allergies, where the immune system reacts to a substance that it normally would ignore.

Autoimmune disorders occur when the body’s immune system becomes confused. Because the immune system is used to fight foreign invaders, under normal circumstances, the immune system is able to tell if a group of cells is part of the body or not. For example, it generally has no problem recognizing that bacteria and viruses do not belong to the body. In such cases, the immune system takes a number of actions to fight off and kill the foreign cells.

Autoimmune Diseases Symptoms

Symptoms of autoimmune diseases vary depending upon the organ or system that has been affected. In certain cases, multiple organs and body systems are affected.

Autoimmune diseases occur in both cats and dogs, producing relatively similar symptoms.

Symptoms in AIHA vary according to the severity of the condition. Common symptoms include fever, fatigue, pale skin, weakness, dizziness, confusion, low blood pressure, intolerance to physical activity, enlarged liver, increased heart rate and hurt murmur. When RBC destruction is rapid, mild jaundice, a yellowing of the skin and eyes associated with dark urine can occur. If RBC destruction persists for extended periods, the spleen can become enlarged, causing symptoms of abdominal fullness or bloating.
