Eye Diseases and Health :

Eyes are a wonderful gift of nature. The structures and functions of the eyes are complex. Hence, all eye problems, whether they are infections, degenerative problems or eye injuries, should receive urgent remedial care.

Retinal Detachment-

Retina is the light-sensitive layer of tissue that lines the inside of the eye and sends visual messages through the optic nerve to the brain. Retinal detachment is a serious problem that usually affects middle-aged or older people.

Causes of Retinal Detachment

High level of nearsightedness.

Sickle cell disease.

Cataract surgery.

Treatment of Retinal Detachment

Retinal tears with minimal or no detachment may be treated with laser or freezing procedures. Some retinal tears do not require treatment.

Pneumatic retinopexy is a newer method for retinal detachment repair. It is not suitable for all types of detachment.

Shoulder Separation and Health :

A shoulder separation occurs after a fall or a sharp blow to the top of the shoulder. This injury is usually sports related. Some separations happen in car accidents or falls. This is not the same as a shoulder dislocation, which occurs at the large joint where the arm attaches to the shoulder, although the two may appear to be the same

Medical Care

It is often difficult to tell a moderately severe shoulder separation from a fracture of one of the shoulder bones or a dislocation of the shoulder (in which the bone in the upper arm [humerus] comes out of the shoulder joint).

High Blood Pressure and Health :

Because it was, at one time, measured with a device using a column of mercury, blood pressure measurements are expressed in millimeters of mercury, or mm Hg. High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is defined as a systolic blood pressure reading greater than 140 mm Hg or a diastolic blood pressure reading greater than 90 mm Hg. The systolic blood pressure is the top number of a blood pressure reading. It indicates the peak pressure in the blood vessels, when the heart contracts and circulates blood throughout the body. The diastolic blood pressure is the bottom number of a blood pressure reading. It indicates the lowest pressure in the blood vessels, between heartbeats when the heart is at rest.

Heart Disease and Health :

Cardiovascular disease (CVD), including heart disease and stroke, remains the leading cause of death in the United States despite improvements in prevention, detection, and treatment. CVD is no longer thought of as a disease that primarily affects men as they age. It is a killer of people in the prime of life, with more than half of all deaths occurring among women.

Pityriasis Rosea and Health :

 

Pityriasis rosea (Pit-ih-RYE-ah-sis Ro-ZEA) is a rash that can occur at any age but it occurs most commonly in people between the ages of 10 and 35 years. The rash can last from several weeks to several months. Usually there are no permanent marks as a result of this disease, although some darker-skinned persons may develop long-lasting flat brown spots that eventually fade.

What is the treatment?

Treatment may include external or internal medications for itching. Soothing medicated lotions and lubricants may be prescribed. Lukewarm rather than hot baths may be suggested. Strenuous activity that could aggravate the rash should be avoided. Ultraviolet light treatments given under the supervision of a dermatologist may be helpful.
