How To Control On Dust
A growing body of scientific evidence, as well as patients’ personal experiences, shows a strong link between indoor dust and illness, especially asthma and allergies.Dust controls reduce thesurface and air transport ofdust, thereby preventing pollutants from infiltratinginto storm water. Control measures are ofteninstituted in industrial areas or in areas where landis being disturbed.
This report was prepared by Martin Marietta Laboratories, Baltimore, Maryland, and Marcom Associates, Inc., Annandale, Virginia, under USBM Contract Number J0235005. It was administered under the technical direction of the U.S. Bureau of Mines, Pittsburgh Research Center, with Vinit Mody acting as Technical Project Officer.Air pollution affects the health and quality of life of a large number of Londoners. Dust and emissions from demolition and construction work can impact on air quality.
Semidowndraft ventilation booths are recommended for use during the manual transfer of dyes. A vertical air shower pushes airborne dust out of the worker’s breathing zone, until the dust is captured and exhausted from the work area (see ILLUSTRATION). Without the air shower, eddy currents can from around the worker and stir up dust. All tasks associated with the manual transfer of powdered dyes (weighing, scooping, etc.) should be performed inside the booth under the air shower.
